ICYMI TN-SEN THIS WEEK: TENNESSEE REPORTS MOST ACTIVE COVID CASES TO DATE, AS HAGERTY PUSHES FOR OWN “HONOR OF A LIFETIME” TO HOST RNC

Nashville thankful to see RNC heading elsewhere

For Immediate Release: June 12, 2020

NASHVILLE – This week offered no shortage of contrasts in the race for Tennessee’s open U.S. Senate seat, with White House COVID Task Forcer Bill Hagerty continuing to transmit himself unmasked across Tennessee and openly court the Republican National Convention, and decorated Iraq war veteran James Mackler continuing to share his track record of service and sacrifice with Tennesseans at safe distances and with appropriate face coverings

UNMASKING BILL’S PRIORITIES

In what’s only the latest example of Bill Hagerty putting the president’s priorities ahead of Tennesseans, Hagerty spent the last week offering to have Nashville do what Charlotte, NC was unwilling to do -— jeopardize public health for political gain — in his quest to bring the Republican National Convention to Tennessee. At a time when Tennessee has the most active COVID-19 cases we’ve ever had at one time, and according to the latest Vanderbilt statewide poll, only 24% of Tennesseans say they’d be willing to attend a widely attended event (like the RNC) or felt safe flying on an airplane, Bill Hagerty called succeeding in luring the RNC to Tennessee would be “the honor of a lifetime.” [Update: RNC is headed to Jacksonville.]

UNMASKING HAGERTY’S JOB-CREATOR CLAIMS

Using some of the multi-million dollar loan from his friends at the bank, Hagerty has produced a new television ad touting his jobs record and offering up tough talk on China. Quick fact check is below, and a longer one can be found here.

FACT: Hagerty made Tennessee the “most dependent state in America for trade with China.”

FACT: Hagerty is on the WH COVID Task Force to rubber stamp whatever he’s told to rubber stamp — which is why the COVID Task Force has invested more than $30k to install him into the Senate.

FACT: Hagerty claims he will fight to bring back the same supply chain his ECD shipped overseas

UNMASKING ATTACKS ON VOTE-BY-MAIL

State officials in Tennessee had to be threatened with criminal contempt charges for their lackadaisical implementation/non-compliance with a ruling that all 4.1 million Tennessee voters be permitted to request mail ballots in the upcoming election. Put Bill Hagerty on Team Contempt as he’s called vote-by-mail a scheme to steal the election. The nation’s leading voting rights organization has joined Team Mackler. Let American Vote: “James Mackler knows that the attempts to suppress Americans’ right to vote fly in the face of what he fought and sacrificed for when he was in the military. Amid the coronavirus outbreak, voters deserve to be guaranteed safe, free and fair access to the ballot and there’s no stronger champion for Tennesseans than James.

UNMASKING UNLAWFUL ORDERS

Details have emerged this week of what the Insurrection Act – what Bill Hagerty eagerly urged the president to invoke – would have looked like on American streets. The White House wanted to deploy 10,000 active duty troops to major American cities and were only stopped in doing so by the Joint Chiefs. Hagerty has joined with Trump and Attorney General William Barr in blaming violence on Antifa, while “Federal Arrests Show No Sign that Antifa Plotted Protests.” There’s no denying the president tear-gassed Americans to stage a photo op across from the White House, and this week General Mark Milley apologized for appearing in fatigues next to the president, calling the move a “mistake.” In another stark contrast to Hagerty who doesn’t appear to be able to stand up to anyone, as a JAG, James Mackler advised, and at times overruled, commanders over whether or not military orders were lawful.

UNMASKING HOW CANDIDATE HAGERTY MAKES LIFE TOUGHER FOR AMBASSADOR HAGERTY’S FORMER COLLEAGUES

While Hagerty’s militarization message earned himself an endorsement from U.S. Senator Tom Cotton this week, the American diplomatic corps is having a tougher time.

“U.S. Diplomats Struggle to Defend Democracy Abroad Amid Crises at Home,” read an alarming headline in the New York Times this week. “Police violence and President Trump’s threats to use the military against protesters have undercut American criticism of autocrats and called into question the country’s moral authority.” It’s unclear if Hagerty has been asked about this juxtaposition. Mackler: He should know better

UNMASKING CONTEMPT FOR OVERSIGHT

This week the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee “drops effort to secure Pompeo testimony.” Pompeo hasn’t appeared before his committee of jurisdiction since April 2019, and recently fired the agency’s independent watchdog who was investigating, among other things, Pompeo’s taxpayer-funded “Madison Dinners” for GOP donors. Not unmasked yet is if Pompeo friend and ally Bill Hagerty was one of the hundreds invited to the fetes – not that he would respond if asked. While Bill Hagerty has pledged to be a rubber stamp, decorated Iraq war combat veteran James Mackler is running to be an independent voice and has promised to restore the Senate’s oversight role

UNMASKING HAGERTY’S FRIENDS: KUDLOW BACK AT IT

In this week’s episode of the company Bill Hagerty keeps, Bill’s fundraising friend and White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow, who previously said the admin’s response to COVID-19 was “air tight,” repeatedly stated his belief that systemic racism does not exist in the United States. Kudlow joins Art Laffer on the list of Hagerty fundraiser guests who’ve made openly racist comments.

UNMASKING OBAMAGATE MICHAEL FLYNN

Even a judge remarking that “everything about [the Michael Flynn] case is irregular,” Hagery only has praise for Flynn and calls him a “war hero.” Hagerty continues to push the false narrative that the Trump campaign was spied on to explain how Flynn was caught calling the Russian Ambassador’s legally tapped phone as a still-private citizen in December 2016, which is illegal under the Logan Act

UNMASKING BILL’S TRUE BELIEFS

In another rarity, it doesn’t look like Hagerty has parroted his golden ticket’s refusal to rename military installations honoring Confederate soldiers. James Mackler, who trained at both Fort Rucker and Fort Benning, called the move overdue, saying it was time to honor different legacies. While Hagerty has no problem exposing at-risk Tennesseans to COVID for his own political gain, he seems a bit more hesitant to expose them to his actual beliefs.

UNMASKING BILL’S STANDING

Bill Hagerty isn’t shy about being proud to stand with President Trump, although sometimes he sits while saying so. Maybe kneeling is an issue he’s planning to use to differentiate with his golden ticket? It appears to us that the president’s ban is the only thing we haven’t seen Team Hagerty retweet. Decorated Iraq War combat veteran James Mackler noted that “Kneeling — and protesting — are citizens exercising their Constitutional rights I fought to defend on the battlefield and in the courtroom.” Shout out to Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk agreeing, says the team will support their players who choose to use their platform to protest injustice — including kneeling during the national anthem.

UNMASKING BILL SOME MORE

Renowned comedian and Celina native, Trae Crowder, noted that “the choice [in this race] could not be more clear,” comparing Hagerty’s history of serving himself versus Mackler’s history of serving his country. Nashville producer Callie Khouri agrees. While Hagerty further transmitted himself, unmasked, across the state and earned the endorsement of warmonger Tom Cotton, Mackler again wore face coverings when meeting Tennessee FireFighters President Eddie Mitchell, stood up for sick Kingston coal ash workers, and had a conversation with voters in Lincoln County about why he’s running.
